Education and Value System of our Country

My idea rotates around one thing how to make a student employable? In my career of 20 years, I have found that we Institutions and Universities are granting Degrees and churning big bucks from the pockets of poor students. We so-called Academicians and Educated people, do not take our job seriously and never care for the student. I have seen many professors and teachers those take teaching as a secondary job and primary job is administration. The administration is a place where people can get into power and get extra cash rather than teaching.

If we do not teach kids properly, then we are killing the life of our kids, killing our country`s future and parallelizing the humanity. If that kid does not understand what is being taught then whole life he will just be Homosapien not human. Values and Ethics are not taught but to be deep-rooted in the mind of our students. We teach subjects like Moral Science and Human Values & Ethics do you think the subject is making any difference in the mind of the student? I don`t think so. With all these words I just want to make propose some of my suggestions those may impact the overall Education System and life of our students:

1. Basic Education, until 10th standard, must be free for all the kids of our country.

2. Subjects like Moral Science and Human Values & Professional Ethics should not be taught but they should be proposed as a compulsory community service. Like every kid, regardless of his/her religion, should be told to do community service to temples, mosques, gurudwaras, churches and other places of worships like how Sikhs do in their gurudwaras. This will imbibe the feeling of respect and acceptance of the other religions in the mind of our kids. Community services like cleaning of the surroundings of the place of worship, painting of walls, helping people during their visit to the place of worship, Planting Trees in the surroundings and more can be thought of.

3. Kids with the help of their schools should help District Administration in most of their work like cleaning of roads, visits to garbage dumping sites on how the garbage to be removed and reduced, cleaning of water bodies in and around the city or village.   This will provide a sense of belongingness for the area/city/village and if their parents spit/throw garbage on roads then the kids will ask not to do this. Kids can teach their parents and change their mind but we cannot. As Adults, we think we are smart, but if we teach kids about their values then their parents can also be taught, indirectly.

4. Every kid, as done in some of the countries, should work with our Armed Forces for compulsory 1 Year. This will help us to imbibe the feeling of respect for our Armed Forces.

5. We see the situation of unemployment, this is growing like hell. This is because that whosoever takes admission in a course is passed, even if he is not eligible to pass. This is what I mentioned in the paragraph above. We pass everyone. We do not see that if the person is passed, then he will be called Eligible but we do not think is Skilled for the Job? We in Academics say "Arre yaar pass kar do kya farak padta hai? Pass ho jayega to kuch kar lega warna humein Gaali dega". We pass the students without thinking whether the student has the required skills to do the job? This happens in most of the universities and colleges. We do not think if its long term effect on our society, country, and humanity. After passing, if the student does not get the job, then he gets frustrated and does something else, of which he had not been trained for.

We must think before giving admission to any student, that is he ELIGIBLE for the course or not. Eligibility should not be based on his degrees or mark sheets or Division or some entrance test. It should be based on some more scientific method or psychological examination of the mind of the student(those can be brainstormed).

We now think that if our kids get admission in our so-called best institutions, then he will get a good pay package. But, what about values? The country invested so much, but kid after getting a good pay package from an MNC company leaves the country. What country gets after investing so much in kid? If our value system is strong enough, the points I talked about 2, 3,& 4, the kid will first serve his country, before going somewhere else.  Best brains must remain in our country.

6. Our curriculum should be changed radically. Examination system should be overhauled. The syllabus is obsolete and should be changed every year, incorporating points 2,3 & 4. More practical and skill-oriented subjects should be taught. Our Examination is like "Food In and Vomit Out". We should ask for the industry to develop Question Papers in the subject, not academicians. This will bring Industry one step closer to Academia. Each and every industry should, depending on their area, should be attached to the college or University. Universities should guide Industries and not vice-versa for this Universities should in close connection with the industry monitor their processes and research to make them better.

7. Stop giving affiliations to new colleges. As this mushroom growth of colleges has degraded whole academic sanctity. A fixed quota should be there with AICTE for a year. Affiliations are given to colleges that are even not eligible. This is a hard truth.

In my last comment.

We should stop the Commercialization of Education, otherwise one day our whole country will collapse. As said by one wise man "If you want to collapse a country, then collapse its education system".

"Collapsing any nation does not require the use of Atomic bombs or the use of Long-range missiles. But it requires lowering the quality of Education and allowing cheating in the exams by the students.
The patient dies in the hands of the doctor who passed his exams through cheating.
And the buildings collapse in the hands of an engineer who passed his exams through cheating.
And the money is lost in the hands of an accountant who passed his exams through cheating.
And humanity dies in the hands of a religious scholar who passed his exams through cheating.
And justice is lost in the hands of a judge who passed his exams through cheating.
And ignorance is rampant in the minds of children who are under the care of a teacher who passed exams through cheating.
The collapse of education is the collapse of the Nation”

Please permit me to add the following to the above;
Shoddy laws are made by the politician who passed exams through cheating.
Half or unverified information is given by the journalist who passed exams through cheating.
Unjustifiable/unpatriotic actions are supported by citizens who passed exams through cheating.
Substandard works are done by the public/civil servant who passed exams through cheating.
Half/subjective analysis is given by civil society organizations whose leaders passed exams through cheating.
Uninspiring leadership is given by the leader who passed exams through cheating.
Indeed, the collapse of Education is the collapse of the Nation."

ATL Tinkering Lab Plan

As we know that whole idea behind tinkering lab is to inculcate a sense of innovation in the mind of students. I have enumerated some of the points if followed those could help strengthen our motto: We can divide our year into following: Problem Identification month. Problem solution Identification months. Discuss our solution in a debate competition and brainstorming sessions during the entire month. Prototype designing month. Prototype testing month, with testing our solution with different test cases. Solution implementation month. Publishing our solution We first jot down different types of problems that our world, country, humanity, school, kids or society faces – This step can be done in a meeting with some of the teachers in school. Brainstorming on the problems and selecting the problems those we think are solvable within our constraints. Almost 10-15 problems can be identified so that we can give these pro...

Changing Mindset in New India and points to ponder upon

I have been witnessing so much positive change in the air after 2014, which is changing Indians mindset from jobs seeker to startup generator. We in our life encounter different types of problems and to solve the problem we design a solution around the problem without giving a try to prototype the solution. In my recent interaction with the school students, I found that the system has changed a lot from the time I used to study in school. Now kids have so much exposure to the tools and techniques to design a prototype for solving the problem, getting the right guidance and expertise from people of different domains. With that rich experience, kids get guidance in problem-solving. The Indian government plan for designing ATL Tinkering labs by NITI Ayog is a remarkable idea. As a mentor of one of the lab in DAV Public School, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh , I also get so much exposure to the new technology which has the potential to change the world. Sometimes I feel so l...
